Our destination was Merzouga, the only Saharan dunes in Morocco. It was by far the highlight of the trip, as you'll see over the next few photos.

We had to drive about 25 miles across rough tracks (pistes) to get there... I was convinced we'd get a puncture on all the rough gravel, but we made it without any problems. Not bad for tyres that only cost £20 each (new, not remoulds!).

Occasionally we'd hit soft sand, but by maintaining momentum we didn't get stuck, despite the exhaust grounding out, stones 'pinging' off it. Fortunately it stayed intact, which was a pleasant surprise as it hangs pretty low on a V6 Granada. Combined with the long wheelbase it doesn't leave much ground clearance over sharp rises.

We kept being overtaken by Land Rover Defenders, and at one point where we were off-piste avoiding the fiercest corrugations, one of them stopped and told us to follow him. He led us to an excellent auberge (hostel) where we stayed overnight.
